About This Course

Aim: To provide an understanding of the main concepts of health and safety and promote a positive health and safety culture.
Suitable for all members of school leadership or management teams; this assessed course has 3 modules.
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
Module 1 - Health and Safety Law and Enforcement
- Outline health and safety responsibilities and accountability within a school setting;
- Have a simple understanding of the Health and Safety At Work Act and employers and employees responsibilities.
- Understand key health and safety regulation requirements for a number of relevant areas, and identify measures that should be implemented to ensure compliance.
- Understand the law and enforcement/legal action that can be taken for non-compliance.
Module 2 - Accidents and Incidents
- Differentiate between an accident, incident or near miss;
- Clarify the Incident management process. Accident, Near Miss, Investigating and reporting
- Determine whether ‘incidents’ require reporting under RIDDOR for employees and pupils
- Have a simple understanding of how to undertake an investigation and evaluate accident causation.
Module 3 - Proactive Health and Safety
- Understand how to implement an effective health and safety management system within their establishment and what this entails. Plan, Do, Check, Act.
- Define the management of risk through Risk Assessment.
- Understand the need to review and monitor your Health and Safety record.
- recognise common failures in Health and Safety Management
This course has a closed book assessment at the end of the training; delegates must achieve a pass mark of >80% to successfully complete the course. Whilst there is no formal qualification, the assessment is designed to confirm delegates have understood the course content.
