 Assertiveness

Aim

The course will benefit staff who want to be more assertive by enabling them to identify their barriers to being more assertive and giving them the chance to try out ways to be more assertive when dealing with people.

To explore how to manage situations in an assertive way to enable you to take action quickly.

Learning Objectives

Delegates will be able to

• Explore how to manage situations in an assertive way, particularly situations where you are nervous
• Find ways to take action quickly and to respond in a proactive way
• Have clear objectives
• Have a can-do attitude
• Take ownership of what you do and deliver
• Understand the benefits of assertive behaviour and what it means for you
• Describe assertive and non-assertive behaviour
• Be able to identify your own communication style and its effect on others
• Be able to identify situations where you would like to be more assertive
• Apply the core principles and skills of assertiveness to a variety of situations 

Who's it for?  

All staff who have dealings with customers, colleagues, Councillors and members of the Public

We recommend having a conversation with your line manager about what you are hoping to achieve from this programme as this will increase your ability to apply the learning.
