Managing Change and Staffing Reductions

19/06/2018

Did you know?

If you are looking to make changes to your staffing structure which may or may not result in staffing reductions, there is a ‘Managing Change Policy’ to follow. This can be found under the ‘Redundancy and Change’ under WES documents (if you purchase HR Advice).

We are here to help

HR Advisors are available to come out and give advice on the process and can continue support and advice throughout the process over the telephone.

Below are some key timescales and dates for your attention:

  • Business case (approved by full Governing Body) submitted to WCC for approval (not academies) allow two weeks
  • Informal consultation with staff to take place allow two weeks
  • Formal consultation with the trade unions two week term time
  • Nomination panel for compulsory redundancies  allow two weeks to give  notice and actually hold the panel
  • Appeal panel for compulsory redundancies allow two weeks to give notice and actually hold the panel
  • Contractual notice period to be served prior to the effective date of the redundancy up to 12 weeks maximum

Key Dates

There are three dates within the academic year whereby staffing reductions can be made for teaching staff.

31st December

30th April

31st August

There is more flexibility for support staff as they are subject to different terms and conditions of employment, however these dates provide a suitable end date for support staff too.
