Letters from the Front. "A Human Document". Private R Ward of Highland Light Infantry wrote to his wife at 30 Court St, Leamington. Long extracts describing condition, food etc at the Front. He states he expects the war to end soon. He refers to fighting the Germans: "when they come to attack us, we simply mow them down". He made a reference to a "wise thing in Southampton in not serving women at the public houses after 5pm and in London before 11.30am."
