Notice had been given to some young unmarried men at the Cement Works aged 19-35 years. Works no longer had enough business for full employment. Capt Osborne"hopes that the sisters of eligible recruits would encourage their brothers to join the forces". Major Welman hoped "that the female relatives of all eligible young men would raise no objection to their going to the colours".
