Small but significant women's suffrage meetings in Johannesburg, despite this. Mr J. Haynes - Speaker, ex Milverton Station master, advocate of women's rights; Lord Milner - Imperialist, author of "England in Egypt" glorifying Britain's role there and ignoring the plight of native women; Mrs Snowdon - reference to a recent speech by her when she ridiculed the "taunts and tricks" of politicians.
